She warned me of extremes,
Of hurting people’s feelings,
Of privatized regimes,
Of prejudicial dealings,
Explaining how neutrality
Could balance weak and strong,
And how impartiality
Helps all to get along.
Provoking her to think a bit,
Her thought as well extreme,
“It’s all been tried before” I said,
And sited Mao’s regime.
Upon her now a blanker stare
As if within a dream,
She’d never heard of Mao you see,
Only self esteem.
