Be still

To challenge norms,
To have us learn,
He forms the storms,
While in the stern.

We drop the sail.
We toss about.
And stoop to bail
The ocean out.

We trust in Him.
We bend the knee.
And by His Word
He stills the sea.

Inspired by Mark 4:36-41

“And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Quiet in the night

She barked her greeting firm
Getting our attention.
Her breath, it just did last,
To see us reunite.

It had become her turn,
In death’s humiliation,
Her paws a hand at last,
In seeing wrongs aright.

Together, his return,
Our reconciliation,
Fifteen years, she passed,
Quiet in the night.

He who never sleeps

He who never sleeps
Napping in the stern.
Anxiously His peeps
Waken Him in turn.
Accusatory sheep
Will we ever learn?
Capsizing distress
This is His concern.

Mark 4:35-41 “And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship.

Psalm 121
A Song of degrees.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help [cometh] from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD [is] thy keeper: the LORD [is] thy shade upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Bad advice

Bad advice is everywhere
Appealing to our every care.
Partaking of its thinnest slice
Leads to escalating vice.

By His Word, under His Wing,
Shielded there from everything
That offers us relief,
Outside His perfect peace.
